Employee Q&A: Aya Soufan

In our Employee Q&A features we ask our employees what they enjoy most about what they do, and give them an opportunity to share a bit about who they are outside of the workplace. Our teams are comprised of amazing people of all different backgrounds and strengths. What they have in common is their passion for clinical research, and for making your sites the most successful they can be.

BTC Network: What have you gained from working at BTC Network?

Aya: While I have not been at BTC for long, I can confidently say that I have gained colleagues who are extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the clinical research industry. It is truly inspiring to work alongside such a driven team. More so, working alongside research sites through the BTC Network has helped me to better understand some of the struggles faced on the site level, both in terms of the financial demands that come with clinical research trials and the increasing complexity of regulations within the industry.

BTC Network: What is your favorite part of your job?

Aya: My favorite part of my job is definitely seeing research sites get excited to take on new study opportunities. Especially the investigators themselves, who have dedicated so much time to advancing clinical research. It is very rewarding to advocate for your research sites and have it pay off!

BTC Network: If you could give clinical research sites only one piece of advice, what would you tell them?

Aya: Definitely take advantage of every chance to showcase your site. You have more power than you think during the feasibility process – whether it’s giving more information than asked for in blank spaces or attaching a ‘one-sheet' to your site’s questionnaire. Providing more information is not only impressive, but it also leads to more room for conversation which could potentially be that next phone call or Site Qualification Visit!

BTC Network: What are three career lessons you’ve learned thus far?

Aya: Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and test the waters, remain humble no matter how successful you become, and never stop learning regardless of how much you think you do know!

BTC Network: If you could witness any historical event, what would you want to see?

Aya: Not so much an event, but a period of time - The Renaissance, hands down! Being in the health care industry, I am very much intrigued with times of great change. While science has made many strides, we still have much to learn and achieve. I am hopeful that here at BTC Network we are able to contribute to advancements in science with our work in clinical research.

Aya_blog_image_2BTC Network: If you had to eat one meal, every day for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Aya: I am a huge carb-aholic! So if I had to eat anything repeatedly, it would have to be either sushi, rice, or mashed potatoes. Everyone in the office is always teasing me about my food choices, so I tease them back about their unenjoyable ‘healthy’ salads! He-he.

BTC Network: Do you have a motto or personal mantra?

Aya: “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.” - Aristotle
