Two Months Later - Revisiting the First Annual Site Workshop

On October 10th, 2018, ClinEdge and BTC Network held our First Annual Site Workshop where we discussed industry trends with the thought leaders of our own community. Like most of our sites, we were tired of conferences and industry educational sessions missing the mark on how we all can solve real problems with real strategies.

Our solution was to cultivate an environment that not only taught sites more about industry trends, but also opened up the floor to get their voices heard one-on-one. In an unprecedented meeting, our sites shared ideas, learned new strategies, and started off the Site Solutions Summit on the right foot.

Now that we are almost two months past the workshop, we thought it would be beneficial to revisit the lessons we learned from the workshop sessions. Read on for a re-cap of each topic area.

TOPIC 1: Improving Your Site’s Bottom Line

During our first session, Chris Monaghan and Adam Schear, our expert Clinical Financial Analysts, talked about ways to improve a site’s bottom line. The discussion covered breaking down budget line items that are universal to all studies and implementing the right strategy to maximize cash flow. They also covered best practices in clinical research billing, and explored systems for tracking receivables and pushing out reminders to hold sponsors/CROs accountable.

TOPIC 2: Pain Points of Growing a Site

In our second session of the day, an expert panel discussed key areas of focus for growing a clinical research site. Our panel of experienced investigators and site directors took a deep dive into the therapeutic expansion process, how to maximize productivity, and expectations for employee retention in different growth phases. Sites in attendance learned that based on the ebbs and flows within the industry, diversifying therapeutic coverage is imperative in order for sites to thrive. Expanding into new therapeutic areas, organizing operations to prepare for expansion, and tips on hiring the right staff were among the main takeaways for this session.

TOPIC 3: An Evolving Clinical Research Ecosystem

During our final session, Christian Burns, President of ClinEdge, along with industry leaders Amanda Wright of Greater Gift, Rick Greenfield of RealTime CTMS, and Sean Stanton, of Lifecore Solutions, discussed the overall future of the clinical research industry. They took a deep dive into what is really going on with digital clinical trials and the impact they will have on research sites in the coming years. In addition, the team shared strategies and insights on how sites can maximize growth and operations in today’s research ecosystem. Through adaptive patient engagement opportunities, site operations models, technology, and virtual clinical trials, sites will be able to adapt and grow in the changing climate of clinical research.

Overall, the topics and discussions led throughout the First Annual Site Workshop were informative and well-received by our sites. We are excited for what 2019 will bring and are looking forward to a second annual meeting in September 2019!
